In lieu of trying to belong to any number of societies: Chesterton, Sherlock Holmes, the Inklings, and so on: I propose and establish one of my own. Don your intelligence cap at the door; dust off your logic and imagination; did you bring your inspiration and encouragement? We are shapers, my friends; lit lamps; light-bringers. Bring quotes; poetry should be uplifting and thoughtful, or witty and clever, (or both). Humor is encouraged; laughter is invited back. Pull up a chair. Anyone for tea?

Some days

Some days I lie in bed plotting story scenes in my head, or designing fictional apartments, before I get up to meet the day. And for months now I've been stretching, warming up, and moving my body before I leave my room; before I open myself up to the internet and the wide world around me.

Building conscious space in and around one's life can be exceedingly important. I have found it so. As in the last year I have come to appreciate my need for large-muscle activity, and lots of green vegetables. We easily agree that these are good things, but for me they are essential to wellbeing.

I was away in Maryland for a while, as some of you know. These are some pictures from my time there, not in any proper order. Mostly Annapolis and DC (I could write a whole post about my visits to those two splendid places). There were so many wonderful moments from that trip that did not transfer to photos as well. That always happens. I had a brilliant time with cousins, and enjoyed walking and biking, sitting and talking, and all the rest.

I came back from my trip with memories, four new shirts, and a decent start on my summer tan. I got to experience early summer all over again back in Minnesota. And so far I have been able to enjoy some quite classic summer activities: a concert in the park, 5k color run, the pool, summer basketball, summer baseball, and today--swimming in all my clothes at the foot of a waterfall. I'm pretty happy about my summer so far. I'm also working on a little veggie-gardening, writing, and a long, involved crafting project that covers my bedroom floor.

Some days I cook, and run, and help, and cheer, and lift, and memorize, and plan, and write.
And some days I sit in the sun, curl up in my bed and watch tv, read children's fiction, or just wonder.

And most days, I do a little of both.
