In lieu of trying to belong to any number of societies: Chesterton, Sherlock Holmes, the Inklings, and so on: I propose and establish one of my own. Don your intelligence cap at the door; dust off your logic and imagination; did you bring your inspiration and encouragement? We are shapers, my friends; lit lamps; light-bringers. Bring quotes; poetry should be uplifting and thoughtful, or witty and clever, (or both). Humor is encouraged; laughter is invited back. Pull up a chair. Anyone for tea?

Christmas Eve Eve

“So full of a number of things, as that odious girl in the poem said”

I got so distracted by this strange day that I nearly forgot to post this. What a day. My 4am shower seems a very long time ago indeed. This morning at work started gradually (after the unloading of the truck) but turned into insane busyness as everyone and his brother came by for coffee and food quick before the blizzard. People were generous though. Tips were good.
Then home at 40 miles an hour, with a quick stop for last minute ingredients plus stuff for a Christmas bouquet or two. The house mother was hard at work in the kitchen making brownies and cookies, the family gathered round for more than the happy reasons of the season. Bad news from the doctors for that family this week. Pray for them if you can.
On to checking off lists and packing up laundry baskets, thinking through tomorrow, copying out a heartfelt letter. Hot chocolate to soothe restless souls. A Christmas movie (and a Christmas Doctor Who). Delaying work tomorrow, so that none of my workers get stranded on their way to the shop. The wind howling, and the temperature dropping fifty degrees. It now feels well below zero.

Amidst the frenetic, I did get a chance to listen to my liturgy apps: that joyous culmination of Advent in this breathless waiting for Christmas. And Handel’s Messiah. More of that (and Dark is Rising) to listen to tomorrow. Stay safe, my beauties. Stay warm. Have some hot chocolate. See you on Christmas Eve!
