In lieu of trying to belong to any number of societies: Chesterton, Sherlock Holmes, the Inklings, and so on: I propose and establish one of my own. Don your intelligence cap at the door; dust off your logic and imagination; did you bring your inspiration and encouragement? We are shapers, my friends; lit lamps; light-bringers. Bring quotes; poetry should be uplifting and thoughtful, or witty and clever, (or both). Humor is encouraged; laughter is invited back. Pull up a chair. Anyone for tea?

Season of Giving (A Giveaway!)

Hello again. It's time to celebrate the season of giving, don't you think? One of my favorite parts of this season is gift-giving. Family exchanges, Secret Santa, a package to someone far away. Seeing faces light up... the anticipation as the paper is ripped back. Maybe my favorite way to give gifts, ever, is for no reason at all. Any time of the year, I love to put together a box with a theme, and hand it off to someone who might be in need of a brightening in their day. So, in honor of Christmas, of God giving Himself as our gift 2000-odd years ago... and because, in a difficult year, we could all use something that brings a smile and reminds us over and over of the hope that is ours... in honor of Just Because.

I'm having a Giveaway!

Included will be: a shawl that I crocheted this year, my very favorite tea, a book from my shelves, a pair of hoop earrings, and an ornament; there will also be (though not pictured here) an original watercolor, a handwritten letter, and Holiday Blend coffee, freshly roasted by myself.

If you think this package would brighten your day, and you would like to enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post! Tell me what you most enjoy on my blog, or tell me an anecdote from your day, or someone you think might enjoy it (entering for someone else works too!) Comment anything you like, and I'll put you in the running. I'll be posting it to my Instagram as well, and folks can comment there. Giveaway ends on the 20th, and then will be wrapped up and sent to you! It may or may not arrive by Christmas, but I hope it brings joy and sparkle whenever it arrives.

At work I've been asking people what their ideal Christmas party would look like.  Answers have ranged from game nights to work parties to full on White-Christmas finale complete with outfits.

Want to tell me what yours would be? In a dream-world post-2020 and all that fandango, I might invite all of you. I'd make dinner, and wear a fun dress. Add a killer playlist and a crackling fire. Mulled wine and baked goodies. Someone at the piano. Impromptu dancing. Puzzles and bananagrams going all out in the corner. LOTS of laughter.

Work is crazy and long, but I am so grateful for everyone who has stepped up to make it work. And last night I got to sing really loud into a microphone (it's cathartic, guys), and my brother reminded me about Phil Wickham's Christmas albums. How had I forgotten?? I just stood there astounded that I'd forgotten about them entirely. I listened on a loop last year. Well here I go to repeat the process. I'm not feeling especially coherent just now, so I'm off to cook some chicken, and read Winter Solstice before bed calls and tomorrow comes early.

Drop me a comment to enter the giveaway!

Peace

I love this!! Each of those things would be quite a treasure. What a lovely, generous idea. I'll enter for my neighbor, who is juggling a baby and three older kids including school drop-off, and work, and *stuff,* you know? And she loves the things we love and would adore those things as much as I would.

My ideal Christmas party would need snow (we don't really get snow here above twice a year, usually in February.) And it would probably happen in Oxford, because that's where I've been daydreaming of going. Elizabethan windows with windowseats, a fat Christmas tree, a piano in the corner with carols being played and sung as friends mingle with hot buttered bourbon and spiced wine and hot chocolate. In the other room there'd be White Christmas or Holiday Inn on the projector, with the sound down, just for the coziness. We'd wear cocktail attire and maybe even dance a little to some Christmas jazz.

Please invite me to your post 2020 party. It sounds amazing!! Christmas this year will be both different and difficult. We all need to extend grace to those around us. I can think of a specific person fir each of those items. It would be fun to surprise them with a bonus Christmas gift!

I love this idea Liv! And I love that Michal is entering for her neighbor❤️
My ideal party would be something close to a few close friends/loved ones (the kind you wear Jammies around) jazz, puzzles, mulled wine and goodies. But I’d find myself and flouncy party dress to come to your party!! Sounds divine!
