In lieu of trying to belong to any number of societies: Chesterton, Sherlock Holmes, the Inklings, and so on: I propose and establish one of my own. Don your intelligence cap at the door; dust off your logic and imagination; did you bring your inspiration and encouragement? We are shapers, my friends; lit lamps; light-bringers. Bring quotes; poetry should be uplifting and thoughtful, or witty and clever, (or both). Humor is encouraged; laughter is invited back. Pull up a chair. Anyone for tea?

October begins

Had a thoroughly lovely day today. I worked in the morning as usual, and then Ben showed up at the coffeeshop just as I was getting off. I made him a pumpkin latte and brought my coffee and lunch over to his table. We had a great talk, which I hope we can continue in more depth before long.

We had been expecting a friend to visit this weekend, but he wasn't able to make it after all. So, to soothe disappointment, Amy suggested I "go to Como Zoo! It's free and they have polar bears!"
Amy's gone this weekend, so I asked Ben if he wanted to come, and we drove out this afternoon. It was brilliant. The park is beautiful, the polar bears are hilarious, the gorillas are amusing and adorable. There were giraffes... we didn't get to see terribly much before it closed, but we got to swing through the conservatory on our way out and that was almost the best part.
Fountains and benches; heady, spicy scents from the warm flowers; greenery and shining glass.
We will definitely be coming back.

Then we had supper out, walked around outdoors, walked around Target, found a few things.
Then headed to my house to watch an episode of Chuck before dispersing for the evening.

Thanks for the great afternoon Ben! Glad I could spend it with you.

The Conservatory is DEFINITELY the best part. I always try to remember it in February when my eyes are dying for some real, non-manufactured color.
