In lieu of trying to belong to any number of societies: Chesterton, Sherlock Holmes, the Inklings, and so on: I propose and establish one of my own. Don your intelligence cap at the door; dust off your logic and imagination; did you bring your inspiration and encouragement? We are shapers, my friends; lit lamps; light-bringers. Bring quotes; poetry should be uplifting and thoughtful, or witty and clever, (or both). Humor is encouraged; laughter is invited back. Pull up a chair. Anyone for tea?

Books

"If we encounter a man of rare intellect we should ask him what books he reads."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
And homing I come, back to that favorite subject of mine ~ books.

I consider books to be a sort of barometer for a home. A glimpse into personality, opinions, affections. Books are required for relaxation, comfort, amusement. They are familiar friends to gather round one. Books encourage, inspire, carry insight, spread knowledge, and generally stimulate the grey cells.

These were the first books I pulled off my shelves to bring. The ones I immediately knew I must keep near me. The comrades I want at my back.

non-fiction that captures me
inspiration and insight

can't-possibly-leave-home-without
encouragement, comfort, home

mandatory for life mysteries

Just heart-favorites

the almost-books: journals, coloring book, sudoku, maps

Then on to...
'can't possibly leave these behind'
... 'no house is complete without those,'
'Might I get a chance to read these?' (the unreads)
'And then there are these of course'

'Just looking at those titles is comforting.'

"The love of books is among the choicest gifts of the gods." - Arthur Conan Doyle
